On June 10, 2026, Google released DiffusionGemma, a model that replaces traditional autoregressive generation with diffusion-based techniques to allow parallelized, faster text output.
It's a proof-of-concept for non-Transformer architectures, but it hasn't seen adoption in production models since its June release.
AILookup take
While the 4x speed gain is impressive, the architecture hasn't yet proven it can scale to the reasoning levels of frontier Transformers. This remains a research curiosity for now.

Details
- Introduces a new architecture that could redefine inference efficiency.
- Open-weights allow researchers to experiment with non-autoregressive LLMs.
- Demonstrates that there are still massive architectural gains to be made beyond standard Transformers.
